A port driver who works for Golden Services LLC must responsibly pick up and deliver steamship containers to appropriate terminals and container yards, including local line haul, while complying with company and DOT regulations. This position also requires the completion of bills of landings and daily truck inspection reports.
This position reports to the port manager.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Check-in with the port dispatch hourly
- Perform daily driver’s vehicle inspection and maintenance
- Verify correct shipments are loaded and unloaded
- Make sure documentation is correct
- Assists in solving problems and addressing customer needs
- Make sure containers and crates are marked properly, and damage free
- Deliver and Pick up all shipments in a safe prompt manner
- Maintain and organize trucks and supplies
- Maintain customer relationships
Physical Demands
- Must lift up to 75 pounds
- Must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions
- Must be able to sit in long lines at the port and stay alert
- Hook and unhook containers, crank up and down landing gear
- Open and close container doors
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent, driver’s license/CDL, effective communication skills, friendly and outgoing personality, organizational skills, and ability to respond to requests effectively and efficiently
- Communicate politely and positively with all customers via phone, face-to-face, or email correspondence
- Maintain production pace and utilize equipment used to perform duties
- Must be able to back a trailer into tight spaces
- Be knowledgeable of all port safety and operational procedures
- Must be able to read a map, understand DOT regulations, have valid medical card, and have a current TWIC card
